A Maternity Nurse will normally work 6 days a week, 24 hours a day or 5-6 days per week, 8-10 hours per day, either day or night.
A Maternity Nurse will take care of all duties associates with the mother, baby and nursery. These duties include some or all of the following:
- Breastfeeding encouragement and support.
- Sterilisation and preparation of feeding bottles and other necessary equipment
- Night feeds
- Professional and knowledgeable guidance on establishing a good routine
- Information on baby products and services
- Knowledge of colic, reflux and other feeding difficulties
- Care of Babies clothes, equipment and toys
All Maternity Nurses offer a variety of additional duties they are happy to perform. For example, additional duties may include shopping, school runs, and preparation of meals and care of pets.
A Maternity Nurse is responsible for nursery duties of the baby. Additional duties will be on the discretion of the Maternity Nurse and must be discussed and agreed in the interviewing process, for example duties of siblings.
A Maternity Nurse is not responsible for housework or cleaning.
