A second interview is normally arranged for 2 or 3 nannies that the family felt could be right for them. When you go to a second interview it is your opportunity to exemplify your skills, your ability to relate and interact with children in accordance to their age, stage of development and their unique individual personality. The interview is practical. It is opportunity for the family to get to know you, and for you to get to know them. Be prepared to be very much involved with the children: wear smart practical clothes, be yourself and enjoy yourself! The second interview should last a minimum of 2 hours.
Once you have completed the second interviews Bluebell Nannies will speak to candidates regarding the outcome of an interview, whether it is successful or not.
For successful applicants, Bluebell Nannies agency will discuss with you the position and finalise details. The family are responsible in giving the nanny a contract of employment. The Contract must be agreed, signed and dated by both the 'employer' family and the 'employee' the nanny.
Interview Preparation for Nannies
- When you go for an interview it's always good to consider questions that maybe asked and plan your answer accordingly.
- Why did you decide to become a nanny?
- What do you most enjoy about the job?
- What is your future plans? Do you plan to continue working as a nanny? Period of commitment?
- Tell me about the children you have looked after before.
- Where do you like to take children out?
- What indoor activities would you offer to my children?
- What kind of meals and snacks would you prepare for my children?
- What do you consider unacceptable behaviour of a child aged 18 months/2 years/3 years (choose age as appropiate)?
- Give an example of a behaviour scenario and ask how they would deal with this behaviour?
- Ask if they have had any experience of an emergency situation? And if yes how did they deal with the situation? Would they have done anything differently?
- Give a First Aid scenario and ask how they would deal with the incident? For example what would you do if a baby was chocking?
- What do you find most challenging when looking after children?
- How do you communicate with the parents you work with?
- How would you describe yourself as a person? What strengths do you think you hold? Can you think of anything you could be better at doing?
- What do you feel are the most important qualities in a nanny?

When answering some interview questions you will need to present your answers so they displays a knowledgeable understanding of the child's current stage of development and also a skilful approach of how you would continue to support and extend the child's cognitive development as he/she becomes older.

- What safety precautions would you need to take into consideration when caring for 6-month baby?
- When the baby begins to walk what safety precautions would you need to consider in the home and outdoors?
- It's always makes a good impression when the nanny has lots of different creative ideas for fun educational activities. Consider the children's Physical, Intellectual, Social and Emotional development and have a mental list of different age appropriate and safe indoor and outdoor activities you can offer.
- Every professional nanny should have a valid First Aid Certificate. Ensure you can answer any question relating to first aid in within the current recommend guidelines.
- Always present yourself well. Take care of your choice of words. If English is second language ensure you have thought out the words you will need to use to express yourself to the best of your capability.
